DBOCT Round II




I'm wrapped in a sheet…I think it's my bed sheet, Silvia's eyes flicked open and she stared down…at her new toga.

"OH EM GEE!" dancing around she watched the swirl of the white robes," I've always wanted my own effing toga!"

"Concentrate! Simulated lives are at stake!" Misery snapped at the ridiculous looking child.

Silvia halted," Oh yeah…Pompeii."  Giving a sigh of agitation she sat down in the dirt," I think I saw the town just over yonder, it looked pretty big," whipping Misery out she began to write in the dirt," I must make a list!"

1.) Invade town without notice

2.) Convince people to leave

3.) Get them far, far away

4.) Get mah man back

Now she was furiously brainstorming, taking careful note of what she learned in history class, "I'm a girl," she reasoned," so since I'm in ancient Rome, people won't really believe me if I tell them that they are going to die in lava and ash," turning the gun around she peered at her reflection," I could pretend to be one of the gods. I am pretty enough…"

"And slutty enough," interrupted the always helpful Misery.

"Shut up."

"Who are the most gullible of people?"

"Are you going to screw around with me, Misery?" Silvia questioned with the obvious tone of annoyance.

" Who are the most gullible of people?

"GRRRR!" standing violently Silvia stabbed a local olive tree with Misery, "SHUT , hey, wait…" she sat down again, her face contorting into one of confusion, "Are the most gullible people the youngest? Children?"

"Maybe…"

That reminds me of a story… she pondered, Only instead of children, there were rats… A grin slowly appeared on her face as her mind created a plan, which was one of epic proportions.

"…and then the mighty warrior took the pretty lady to his grand home in Olympus and they lived happily ever after."

"Yay! Tell us another one, Musa!" the children cheered, their bright faces smiling with delight and joy, unknowing of the terror that awaited.

For the past three days, Musa (aka Silvia) had been Pompeii's storyteller. The littlest ones would try and call her the Muse but ended up calling her "Musa" and the name stuck. Silvia had not seen hide nor hair of her opponent but she liked it that way. This is the most important day she thought as she placed her lute into her makeshift bag, I will tell them of their fate.

Silvia stood and spoke in a solemn voice," I have enjoyed my time here with you all, but now is the time for me to leave,"

"Are returning to the gods, Musa?" asked a small girl.

"No," Silvia patted the girl's head, "I'm returning to my home, to the man I love," she sighed and continued," I will be sad to see this town perish at the wrath of the fire lord because of my failure."

"What wrath?!" asked an older boy, who Silvia knew had the hots for her.

"This town will be destroyed if I cannot bring at least 20 of the citizens away from the cursed mountain."

The small crowd grew silent. "Is…is this true?" many asked in earnest, their voices frightened.

"It is the game I must play."

"I WILL GO WITH YOU, MUSA!" the tiny from before screamed out, which resulted in a small jump from Silvia.

"I can't force you to go. But if you wish to live, follow me to my campsite," and without warning she walked away, into the olive tree grove.

Morning light came, as Silvia woke to a familiar voice.

"well sIlviA, tHaT sEEmEd eASy FoR yOu," Limos chuckled.

"Say…what?" came her croaky voice. And then she saw what he meant. The cave had over 20 children and adults scattered on the damp floor. I did it? "How did my opponent do?"

"sHe USeD fOrCe inStEad Of dECEptIoN," he stated bluntly.

"So I won? Again?" but instead of speaking the answer Limos simply swept her away to his own world. I will get Juan back…
